Chapter Ten

Epilogue:

Five weeks later, Buffy and Willow were on patrol in Restfield Cemetery when they heard a scream and Willow recognized it as Tara so they desperately dashed across the graves. They stopped when they saw Spike pummeling the life out of a grey sloth-like demon. He hit and hit and hit it; missing several excellent opportunities to stake it. It looked like he was trying to torture it first. When it finally dissolved into goo, Spike ran to a gravestone and knelt. After a minute he rose, arms around Tara, kissing her and offering words of comfort, assurances that he would always be there to save her. She seemed at ease with him; at peace, happy even.

Millions of angry words formed in Willow's throat, but none made it out before Spike leaned over and picked up a bag of groceries.

"Don't run ahead like that again, luv. I know you like to make me chase you," his eyes filled with lust and he grinned a very wicked grin, "And I love to catch you." His voice turned serious. "But not at night - not in the cemetery. Hell, not anywhere in Sunnydale."

"I knew you'd save me, Spike. You were more afraid than I was." She kissed him then, deep and passionate; reassuring him that she was fine, that he'd gotten there in time.

When she pulled away, he put his arm around her and took a step in the direction of his crypt before he stopped and turned them both toward where Willow and Buffy were hiding.

The two friends stepped out of the shadows, letting Tara see them as well. Buffy started to say something, but Spike gave a small shake of his head and she stopped.

Willow got out, "Ta-" before Tara turned her and Spike away without saying anything. There was nothing to say. That part of her life was over.

Silently, Buffy and Willow walked toward Revello Drive. When they were almost there, Buffy finally sighed and said, "Looks like we lost them."

Willow nodded; unhappy, but resigned. There was no denying what they had seen with their own eyes. Tara loves Spike and he loves her just as much. She stopped, considering Buffy's words.

"We?"
